start to locavority

The weather isn't all that conducive to planting - wet and cold, but at least we are thinking about it - mostly in terms of finding more garden space. At least two of the plots at the church should help. There are 10 pounds of seed potatoes to plant somewhere, and a lot of squash and cucumbers.
Found some blue lake pole beans from the West Coast Seed company, and a Heirloom beet seed called Chioggia, which produce target - like red and white beets. The lettuce and chard are planted, and the strawberry plants look good. The raspberry canes are moving into the strawberry patch, which is ok, I guess. It should be warm in a few days, and I'll be tempted to put out the tomato plants. Right now, the top of Elephant Mountain is covered with cloud, but there probably is still snow there, indicating that it's too early. Mother's Day added a Comice Pear tree, and a new plum, Red Beauty. If only the apricot tree would produce more than the pretty flowers!
Other things to do:
Go to the co-op more often. Eggs and greens there are local. Duh!
Get to the Wednesday and Saturday markets. I hope that there will BE a Wednesday market, as it was really convenient.
Can local tomatoes.
Find out what local produce stores well. Like carrots. And buy them.
These are such no-brainers, that I wonder why I got away from doing all of this. Those choices of convenience aren't good choices these days.
