garden 2010

This lettuce looks great - it got a lot bigger before it started to bolt. It's typical of the garden this year - lots and lots of green. Just starting to pick a few beans, and the tomatoes seem small and slow. Great plants, wonder if there will be ripe tomatoes for September. Had one zucchini so far, and many dinners of chard. The beet tops look great, and there seem to be beets under them.

Small fruit was super - lots of cherries and raspberries, and more blueberries than usual. Cool weather seemed to keep the cherry worms from appearing until quite late, which was a treat. The blackberry bushes are loaded. But there are only 4 or 5 apricots on the tree, and not a lot of apples. Picked the transparents a couple of days ago. Typically lots of pears on the neighbors' tree, though.

The spring was cool and wet, and we've had occasional rain all along. No long dry periods. Some heat, but not excessive. Have not done much canning yet, just some jam (cherry, raspberry, mixed, rhubarb/citrus). Dried whole cherries, which are interesting, and quite tasty.
