Interchangeable recipe for biscuits and dumplings

For biscuits, preheat oven to 450. A hot oven is a good idea! You can substitute soy milk I expect.
Mix 1 3/4 cups flour, 3 teaspoons of baking powder, and add 4-6 tablespoons of butter, mixing the butter in like you would for piecrust. Add 3/4 cup of milk all at once, and stir it in without too much mixing. Put the dough on a floured surface, and flatten and fold with your hands or a rolling pin about 8 or 10 times. Roll it out, not too thin, and cut straight down with a round cutter. Don't twist the cutter. Bake the biscuits for about 12-15 minutes until nicely browned.
For dumplings, just drop spoonfuls of the dough into your simmering liquid. Cover, and cook for about 20 minutes.
